Client

Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca is one of the largest and most prestigious public universities in Romania. Its Faculty of Business offers undergraduate and master’s programmes in business administration, hospitality and tourism, delivered in both Romanian and English.

In 2026, the faculty became the first business school in Romania to receive AACSB accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, one of the most prestigious international quality standards in business education, held by fewer than 6% of business schools worldwide.

As part of the Business Administration in Hospitality Services programme, students attend the compulsory Travel Agency Management course, where they use the Revas Travel Agency Business Simulation under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. PhD Monica Maria Coros, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Business.

Challenge

Teaching travel agency management requires more than explaining business concepts in theory. Students need to understand how market context, competition and strategic decisions influence company performance.

While these topics can be discussed in a traditional classroom, it is often harder for students to experience how they interact in practice. Monica Maria Coros needed a way to let students make business decisions, observe the consequences and adjust their strategy based on the results, not just learn how a travel agency operates in theory, but experience how decisions play out in a competitive market.

Solution

Monica Maria Coros built the Travel Agency Management course around the Revas Travel Agency Business Simulation, making it part of the compulsory curriculum for the Business Administration in Hospitality Services programme.

More than 60 students manage virtual travel agencies, competing against other teams in the same simulated market. They make business decisions, watch the impact in real time and analyse how their results compare to their competitors, round after round. How the course builds toward this, and how it connects back to what students learn about market context and competition, is Monica’s own course design.

Results

Based on Monica Maria Coros’s feedback after running the course:

Student engagement was higher compared to traditional teaching
Understanding of business decision-making was rated 4 out of 5
Active participation during classes was rated 4 out of 5
Likelihood of recommending Revas to other educators was rated 5 out of 5

Summary

By managing virtual travel agencies, students in Monica Maria Coros’s course gain hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of market context and competition. Through the simulation she built into the curriculum, they experience firsthand how business decisions, competitive dynamics and market conditions shape a company’s performance, connecting theory with real-world decision-making.

As Monica put it: “Revas gives students a great hands-on experience and helps them better understand the market context and competition. After using the simulation, students become more aware of how their decisions affect business results.”
