British School Muscat is one of the highest-rated British international schools in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. For more than 50 years, it has educated students aged 3–18 with a strong focus on critical thinking, independent learning and preparing young people for future challenges.

Challenge

British School Muscat wanted students to move beyond memorising business concepts and start applying them in realistic business situations.

The school was looking for a teaching method that would help students:

develop critical thinking,
connect theory with practice,
analyse data before making decisions,
understand the consequences of business choices,
experiment and learn from mistakes in a safe environment.

The solution also needed to support the school’s High Performance Learning (HPL) philosophy, which emphasises analytical thinking, reflection and continuous improvement.

Results

In 2023, British School Muscat introduced Revas Travel Agency business simulation into the Year 10 Business curriculum.

Approximately 50 students manage virtual travel agencies, making decisions about pricing, marketing, products and finance while competing in the same simulated market. Students use the simulation both during lessons and independently at home to analyse previous rounds, improve their strategies and respond to changing market conditions.

According to teacher Yoann Danion, the simulation reflects the complexity of real business by requiring students to consider multiple variables at the same time.

“Through Revas, students reflect on their past decisions and continuously improve their business strategies both in and out of the classroom. Overall, 97% of our students perceived Revas as a valuable tool that supported their learning in Business.”

Summary

The simulation helped students develop the skills that British School Muscat considers essential for future success.

Students reported improvements in:

The competitive environment increased motivation, while the virtual setting allowed students to experiment without real financial consequences. Instead of fearing mistakes, students treated them as opportunities to improve their strategies in the next simulation round.
