Students’ main task in the competition was to run their own virtual companies. They were responsible for making realistic business decisions and trying to achieve the best business result. As a team, they had to face challenges all entrepreneurs face in their everyday life.
The course of the competition
Teams competed against each other in running virtual travel agencies in a Business Management simulation. During the first stage, all teams played the first 2 rounds (2 virtual months) on a training session with Revas Team. After the training, students played 5 more rounds in the simulation on their own, one round per week. Within these 5 weeks, players had the opportunity to demonstrate their teamwork, critical thinking and decision-making skills that were affecting the fate of their virtual company.
“We loved the competition, we enjoyed every second of it! This simulation game has helped us improve our problem solving skills and critical thinking abilities because it let us use our skills in real life scenarios. We study business management and it was a very practical experience so we hope we will be able to use it with our future business experiences. This competition also made us work as a team, we gained a lot of collaboration skills – when there was a problem, we always solved it together and it was fun.” – Ant travel team from Toplum Antalya Koleji.
Feedback from participants
BOSS’ participants were high school students from 35 countries around the world. For the majority of them, the competition was an opportunity to test their knowledge in practice in the field of business and management.
Here’s how students rate the competition, its organization, and their overall impression of the event:
“We think this is a really great opportunity for students to actually get in touch with practical knowledge. At school, during business class, we learn business but we have only theoretical lessons whereas with this competition we were able to practice our skills. We think this is very important in developing our knowledge.” – Toad travel team from Escola da APEL.
“The most interesting part of this competition was how we got to apply our business skills and knowledge in a real world context, keeping in mind how different variables could have a huge impact on our decisions. The game was really well put and well organized – it has made it really easy for us to properly analyze the factors affecting the demand.” – Traveliving team from The Geekay World School.
